3 John "That You May Prosper"
The greetings/introductions to each of the New Testament books reveal who Jesus is, His leaders are, and who the church is individually-collective, and this blog series is to help us understand how that allows God’s people to receive revelation into a deeper relational existence than they had prior to knowing this amazing map of our journey that He has given to us.
The greeting of the letter titled 3 John is, “The elder unto the well beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”
The first statement that I will mention today is, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” This health may or may not mean physical health. We know that God has provided and will provide everything that His people need to accomplish their purpose filled journeys, and there will not be anything lacking for them at any point to be connected to and sharing with those whom He places in their paths.
The last phrase I will discuss today is, “testified of the truth that is in thee,” This is again slightly different than the previous letter and has significantly different meaning. The letter before stated, “Truth which dwells in us, and this letter states, “in you.” The Truth as we know by now is Christ. Once Christ is in a “you,” it allows the person of God to realize the depth of the relationship that He purchased for His people on an individual basis.
God has this incredible map for His people, and He shares it with them as He knows they can receive it. Continue following the series and find out how amazing the journey can be.
Tomorrow’s blog is Jude which states, “to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ,”
