1 Peter "Elect According To The Foreknowledge Of God
The greetings/introductions to each of the New Testament books reveal who Jesus is, His leaders are, and who the church is individually-collective, and this blog series is to help us understand how that allows God’s people to receive revelation into a deeper relational existence than they had prior to knowing this amazing map of our journey that He has given to us.
The greeting of the letter titled 1 Peter is, “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.”
The first phrase that I will discuss today is, “strangers scattered throughout…” These people were not strangers in the sense of being unknown to Peter. They were strangers in the way of being God’s peculiar people who are set apart from and living as pilgrims on the earth. People do not get any stranger than God’s people who realize who they are in Christ and are set free from the bounds that this world has.
The next phrase that I’ll touch on today is, “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father,” This is the first time others were referenced to as “elect” in a greeting. This statement in a greeting allows us to know the recipients already knew their standing in the Lord. The realization of being one of the “elect” is both concerning and freeing at the same time. It is concerning because there are huge expectations of God’s people, and it is freeing because once you know you are one of the “elect” there is no missing the homecoming to your Father.
The final point that I will discuss today is, “unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ” The obedience is to the calling of God, and that allows His people to be cleansed by the sprinkling of Jesus’ blood God does not waste Jesus’ blood and every drop of it will accomplish God’s plan for it; thereby taking the pressures off of His people who are traveling through their journey on the Earth.
God has this incredible map for His people, and He shares it with them as He knows they can receive it. Continue following the series and find out how amazing the journey can be.
Tomorrow’s blog is 2 Peter which states, “to them that have obtained like precious faith with us”
