John wrote his account so others might understand the depth of God’s love

Jesus gave His people the "Great Commission." He sent them as He was sent, breathed the Holy Ghost on them, and gave them the ability to retain or remit sins.

John concludes his gospel with, “And there are so many other things which Jesus did, which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.”
